We’re traveling across China for 26 days – and there have been quite a few interesting delicacies!

China was exciting and yet boring – too much city, too little countryside, highly organized and still chaotic.
We’re traveling in a fixed group for the first time. We enjoy connecting with the friendly bikers and the two other overlanders – everyone has fascinating stories to tell, and the kids are thrilled to finally have a friend their own age again!
At the same time, the tight schedule stresses us out. Early mornings, hitting the road – drive, drive, drive – and spending the night in the next city, usually at the bikers’ hotel.
Of course, we explore the cities and see an incredible number of sights that have been on our bucket list for years!
We take a short break from the group, find a parking spot outside the city, go for a hike, and have a picnic in a meadow instead of going to another restaurant. Our tour guide is always a bit caught off guard but lets us do our thing – and these little pauses do us a world of good!
About 3,000 kilometers in less than 30 days – that’s quite a lot. There were many places we would’ve loved to stay longer, especially in the mountains, which were absolutely stunning.
We crossed the entire country, and yet this short time can’t possibly do justice to such a giant of a nation!
Arriving in Laos, we start thinking about what’s next.
Thailand makes it very difficult to bring in a motorhome – it would be expensive and complicated, and Vietnam makes it nearly impossible.
So, what now? What’s the next step?
